Gov. John Lynch and officials with Sprint Corp. announced a Derry woman designed the best logo for a new discount campaign offered to Iraq war veterans, known as “Military Mondays.”
Susan Perry’s husband, Joe, has been in Iraq for nine months as part of a Massachusetts Army National Guard unit stationed out of Reading, Mass.
“I’m just very proud. I wanted to give something back. It’s a very worthy cause,’’ said Perry, whose design has blue stars in a field of white and red.
Lynch used the occasion to videotape an e-mail birthday card in honor of Joe Perry’s birthday today. “Happy birthday dad,’’ said their son, Jason.
Linda DeFelice of Belmont, Mass., is Perry’s mother and said she’s been artistic since she was a child.
When asked to say something to her son-in-law, DeFelice said, “Hang in there, Joe.”
DeFelice had a brother, John Chaves, who died in 1970 of injuries suffered during the Vietnam War. “That’s what I always told my brother, ‘Hang in there,’ ” she added.
New Hampshire is the first state to offer the unspecified discount for calls made on Sprint phones, Lynch said.
